In short

FlamingoAtlas doesn't use tracking cookies, doesn't sell data and doesn't run third-party analytics. We count visits ourselves, without storing your IP address, and we only store contact details if you sign up for alerts.

Visit statistics

When you open a page, your browser sends us the page address, the referring site, your screen width and your time zone. We store a visitor code made from your IP address and browser, mixed with a secret that changes every day, so we can count unique visitors without recognizing you the next day. Your IP address itself is never stored. Raw statistics are deleted after 400 days.

Launch alerts

If you turn on browser alerts, we store the subscription address your browser gives us (it only lets us send notifications to that browser), your language, country, time zone and chosen topics. If you sign up by email, we store your email address with the same details and send one confirmation email; nothing else is sent until you confirm. We use these details only to send the alerts you chose.

Unsubscribing and deletion

Use “Turn off alerts” on the alerts page, block notifications in your browser, or click “Unsubscribe” in any email. To have your details deleted completely, reply to any alert email.

Where data is stored

On our own server. Emails go out through an email delivery provider working on our behalf. Browser notifications go through your browser maker's push service (Google, Mozilla, Apple or Microsoft).

Your rights

You can ask what we store about you, have it corrected or deleted, and object to its use. If you're in the EU or UK, you can also complain to your data protection authority.
